Juvenile Courts Data Collection Report - In June 2016, JJC released a report entitled Denied Existence: The Untold Stories of 90,000 Cases in Ohio’s Juvenile Courts. The report examined publicly available annual reports issued by Ohio's juvenile courts, finding that the reports varied significantly between counties, making any comparison extremely difficult. Community-Based Alternatives to Incarceration Report - In October 2015, JJC released the Bring Youth Home report on Ohio’s deincarceration programs for other states to use as they create new or reevaluate existing deincarceration programs as well as to encourage continued innovation in Ohio. Peace Circles Fact Sheet - In 2015, the Summit County Juvenile Court's Peace, Justice, and Equality Initiative and the JJC collaborated to develop a fact sheet on the Court's peace circles, a restorative justice practice. An updated fact sheet was developed for 2016.
OJJA Fact Sheets - In March 2015, the Ohio Juvenile Justice Alliance (OJJA) released 18 fact sheets and infographics on Ohio's juvenile justice system. The fact sheets provide a thorough look at juvenile justice issues in Ohio and include national research and best practices, along with Ohio data.
DYS FY16-17 Budget Cuts - In March 2015, the Ohio Department of Youth Services - the state agency that deals with juvenile justice issues - released its budget for fiscal years 2016-2017 (FY16-17) and called for over $32 million in reductions (described in more detail in this fact sheet). JJC, along with almost 30 other individuals and organizations, signed a letter supporting the reinvestment of the proposed cuts.
